I’m slowly writing a book about season 85/86 in Scottish football. While a narrative-style retelling of a never-to-be-repeated title race provides the action, the book also explores many other aspects of that season in the context of how football, and football fandom, in Scotland and beyond has changed since.

It also dips in and out of deep dives into the histories of and stories behind the artifacts and traditions that make football the world’s game. As football reporter Lawrence Kitchin wrote after England’s 1966 World Cup triumph, “Football is the only global idiom apart from science.”
